Province of North Carolina Uncut Sheet 2s 6d, One Pound, 10s 1771 PMG65 Gem Unc
Province of North Carolina - Uncut Sheet - 2s 6d, One Pound, 10s - 1771 - PMG65 - Gem Uncirculated - Fantastic piece of history, this uncut sheet of early notes from the Province of North Carolina issued in 1771 and signed by Richard Caswell, Lewis De Rosset, John Harvey and John Rutherfurd. The notes on the sheet are listed from top-to-bottom as Two Shillings Sixpence (NC-136), One Pound (NC-138) and Ten Shillings (NC-138). This sheet has been authenticated, encapsulated as Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ (Exceptional Paper Quality). Of interest is that when I hold the sheet up to the light I can see a pinhole that goes through the "n" of "and" in the top line on the note.
Originally I thought that somehow the graders at PMG had missed it, but I now stand corrected. The hole is there because at the time the sheet was printed, a steel rod was punched through the paper and then it was hung up to dry. So the grade is correct, the sheet is exactly as printed in 1771. This historic piece is one of a kind and could be the centerpiece of any fine collection of North Carolina or Colonial notes.
