The Bank of England, opened for business on 1 August 1694, began as a private bank that would act as a banker to the Government. It was primarily founded to fund the war effort against France.

The King and Queen of the time, William and Mary, were two of the original stockholders. Dipicting Matthew Boulton 1728 - 1809 and James Watt 1736 - 1819, both leading lights of industrial revolution / Images of the Solo Manufactory and Whitbread Engine / "I sell here, Sir, what all the world desires to have - POWER" (Matthew Boulton) and "I can think of nothing else but this machine" (James Watt). Note is clean and firm with an original, natural sheen.

Corners are sharp and square, without any evidence of rounding, folding or bending. Rare "AA" prefix low number of "November 2011" Issue of Series "F" Third Historical Issue by Bank of England.
