The third issue in the Royal Mint's five year First World War Centenary series will commemorate the role of the Army. After the war broke out in 1914, it became clear that the British army was not large enough to sustain the conflict that engulfed Europe and then the world. Thousands of men volunteered for service and it was realised that many more would enlist if they could serve alongside their friends, relatives and neighbours. This reverse of this coin was designed by Tim Sharp and marks a poignant moment in military history. Edge Inscription: FOR KING AND COUNTRY.
